PZ Wilmar Limited, manufacturer of Devon Kings and Mamadol brands, participated in the inaugural launch of the Micro Fortification Index (MFI) in Nigeria held recently in Lagos, where it won the Industry Leadership Award in Quality Systems and Food Fortification.
This MFI concept is being promoted by Technoserve as part of its efforts to tackle malnutrition in Nigeria and is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through Technoserve’s Fortified Foods Africa Processors Strengthening Programme, SAPFF, project.The concept has been recognised by the Federal Government of Nigeria, its regulatory agencies (SON, NAFDAC, FCCPC) and other companies in the food (oil, flour) industry.
The inaugural launch event, held on September 16, 2021 at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos, was attended by key dignitaries including the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Hanire and prominent regulators and development partners, who recognised PZ Wilmar’s commitment to implementing the various Food Fortification Index compliance guidelines. The results of the inaugural Micro Fortification Index (MFI) report saw PZ Wilmar’s brands Devon Kings and Mamadol come out on top, emerging as the top two most fortified foods among 18 prominent food brands in Nigeria. Speaking at the launch event in Lagos, PZ Wilmar’s Technical Manager, Mr. Dare Ogunbela, thanked the organizers and participants of the launch, saying, “Today, there is even more emphasis on the importance of healthy living, in which food plays a major role. That is why, at PZ Wilmar, we take food fortification very seriously and ensure that our food products such as edible oils, margarines, spreads and condiments are adequately fortified with all the necessary nutrients.”
