New local voting boundaries and polling place locations approved this fall by the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections go into effect today, March 12, for the presidential primary. People's voting precincts, ballots, and candidates remained unchanged, only the locations where some voters could vote in person.
The Election Commission held four working sessions and two public hearings in 2023 to determine recommended locations and electoral districts. Polling places were evaluated on their required voting space, parking facilities, and whether they were more centrally located within the school district. According to an ACCGov press release, district boundaries were evaluated to more evenly distribute the number of voters between districts and polling stations.
All registered voters should have received a new precinct card in the mail in recent weeks with their polling place and precinct information, regardless of whether their polling place location and precinct has changed. .
