Ahead of one of the largest parades in the country, the Hostess City is preparing to welcome record crowds, even celebrities. At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Van Johnson spoke about how the city is preparing for the 200th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. In 2023, celebrities Conor McGregor and Travis Tritt showed off their greens at the 199th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. With last weekend's Tybee Island Parade canceled, there could be even more people in attendance at this weekend's parade. Celebration in Savannah. But Johnson said everyone is a celebrity, whether they're a visitor, worker or MMA fighter, and said, “We know a lot of people are going to come.” “I think everyone who comes here is a celebrity. More importantly, it's the people who live here every day. It's a great day for our city and a great day for our broader community.” Johnson said he reached out to McGregor the following day. X, formerly known as Twitter, spoke Wednesday morning about whether he would make an appearance. He didn't respond to inquiries, but could confirm that the parade is an “everyone-in-one” operation. That includes city employees, citizens, sanitation workers and everyone else. “This is our Super Bowl,” Johnson said. “It's really an all-hands-on-deck effort. Last weekend's Tybee Island parade was canceled, so more people could attend this weekend's celebration in Savannah. But Johnson says everyone is a celebrity, whether they're visitors, workers or mixed martial artists.
“We know a lot of people are going to come,” Johnson said. “I think everyone who comes here is a celebrity. More importantly, it's the people who live here every day. It's a great day for our city and a great day for our wider community. ”
Johnson said he reached out to McGregor on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday morning about whether he would appear. He has not responded to the inquiry.
However, it was confirmed that the parade was an “all participation” operation. That includes city employees, citizens, sanitation workers, and everyone else.
