Peck was arrested in August 2003 on 11 charges of child sexual abuse. In October 2004, he was sentenced to 16 months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender.
But before the judge sentenced Peck, 41 of Peck's friends and family members, including prominent celebrities, wrote a letter in support of the conversation coach. It is unclear what these supporters were told about Peck's crimes. The letter remained sealed until 2023, when one of the documentary's producers, Maxine Productions, successfully petitioned the court to have it unsealed.
“There were a lot of people in power who were trying to protect this person,” Bell told Business Insider's Kate Taylor in March. “Not just people in power, but people I considered friends.”
“Some of these people were friends of mine in later years, people I worked with later in life, and I had no idea they were writing letters. It was just a matter of processing. It’s new,” Bell added.
