Popular artist Ashley Longshore has accused United Airlines staff of mistreating her when they told her to keep her dog in a carrier during a flight to New Orleans, saying she felt “mistreated.”
Longshore, whose work is adored by celebrities such as Blake Lively and Salma Hayek and whose works can cost up to $10 million, tearfully posted to Instagram after being reprimanded for taking her Brussels Griffon dog outside to get some water.

In a since-deleted post from July 1, she wrote, “Dear United Airlines, your flight attendant shoved and crushed my dog under the seat for the entire 3 hour flight and threatened me if I let him off or gave him water! This is abuse! I am so angry! I am crying!”
“@united….. this is abusive and cruel. To tell me not to give her water!!!!!!! To threaten to call the captain and take her off the plane because she's crying….does anyone here know what I can do????”
She added, “This is so cruel!!! @United this is bullshit!!!!!!!! I have never made a rant like this on social media but this is my dog!!!! I am so angry,” the Alabama-born painter and sculptor wrote in the caption, venting her anger with the hashtag “#animalabuse.”
A United Airlines spokesman said flight attendants on the flight from Newark to New Orleans asked Ashley Longshore to follow the airline's policy on traveling with pets.
“Our crew have reminded customers that pet in-cabin policy requires carriers to be kept closed,” the spokesperson explained.
