Two topics stand out in this week's cartoon gallery: the aftermath of the presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, and the recent Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity.
Biden's shaky debate performance has led to growing calls within his party for him to withdraw from the race, but he has denied this, saying in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos that he “had a bad episode” but was “feeling fine.”
The featured image in the gallery, by Phil Hands, depicts the Founding Fathers pondering whether they should consider placing age or criminal background restrictions on who could run for president, responding, “Who's going to vote for a con man or a weak-willed old man?”
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that former presidents enjoy absolute immunity from prosecution for acts conducted in official capacity, but not for unofficial conduct.
Other topics featured in the gallery include the Fourth of July and the release of Julian Assange.
The cartoons were drawn by Tribune Content Agency's Jack Orman, Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Shainman, Scott Stantis, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Phil Hands, Joel Pett and Joey Weatherford, as well as Creators Syndicate's Mike Luckovich, Steve Breen and Michael Ramirez.
