Kevin Smith has revealed why he hasn't reached out to his friend Ben Affleck yet.
While attending San Diego Comic-Con 2024 on Saturday, July 27, the 53-year-old filmmaker spoke exclusively to People magazine, saying that his wife, Jennifer Schwalbach-Smith, urged Affleck, 51, to “reach out” amid reports of tension in his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.
“Obviously, he's in a difficult situation, or at least that's what's being portrayed in the press and stuff,” Smith told People magazine at the convention. “I'm his least trusted friend, I'm a loose-lipped guy… and my wife was like, 'Oh, you should contact him.'”
In the end, the actor-director decided it was probably best not to follow his wife's advice.
“I thought, 'The person he needs to hear from the most right now is this person who loves to talk,' so if he's doing well, he'll let me know,” Smith said.

He said he would reach out to Affleck as soon as his next film was ready to go. Jay and Silent Bob A reboot of the series in which Affleck previously starred.
“I'll be reaching out to him when we film in the fall,” Smith told People magazine. “He may be at the games, but I've never been anywhere near the action. I keep reading. Most of what I know is provided to me by you guys.”
Smith and Affleck have a long history together, having worked together in many of Smith's earlier films. Mallrats (1995), Follow Amy (1997), dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerk II (2006), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019) and Clerk III (2002).

The filmmaker's comments about Affleck come amid a flurry of speculation about the state of his marriage to actor Lopez, 55, after the pair have been on different coasts in recent weeks, with the actor living in Los Angeles and the singer in New York.
The couple also celebrated their second wedding anniversary apart, with multiple sources telling People magazine that Affleck was “very pleased” with Lopez's recent BridgertonA themed birthday party will be held in the Hamptons on July 24th.
Mr. Smith, his wife, and his Jay and Silent Bob Co-star Jason Mewes attended Lopez and Affleck's wedding in July 2022, which took place on Affleck's 87-acre estate at Hampton Island Nature Preserve in Georgia, along with more than 100 guests.

The filmmaker also spent time with Lopez and Affleck when he directed the 2004 film Affleck & Lopez. Jersey GirlWhen the two reunited in 2021, Smith claimed credit for their iconic couple name, “Bennifer,” on X (formerly Twitter).
