As Simone Biles seeks another chance at an Olympic medal, A-list celebrities are looking on.
The seven-time medalist is one of the most high-profile athletes at the Olympics, and her gymnastics debut on Sunday drew a celebrity-filled crowd that resembled Paris Fashion Week.
Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Tom Cruise, American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Snoop Dogg were among those in the crowd to watch the American gymnasts perform.
Grande was sitting with her co-star in the upcoming film Wicked, Cynthia Erivo, and the pair were seen greeting Wintour, who was there with Australian director Baz Luhrmann.
Higher up in the stands, singer Nick Jonas could be seen chatting with singer John Legend and his wife, model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen, while Academy Award-winning actress Jessica Chastain was also watching Biles' performance at the AccorHotels Arena.
Biles is considered by many to be the GOAT (greatest of all time) in women's gymnastics.
And her considerable medal tally (including four Olympic golds and 30 world championship medals) could well be even higher heading into the 2024 Olympics if not for the infamous “Twisty” incident at the Tokyo Olympics.
Biles suffered a disruptive mental breakdown that forced her to withdraw from several events at the Tokyo Olympics and left many questioning whether she would ever compete again.
Her return to the Olympic stage was a major attraction, and Biles responded with a masterful performance.
She entered the Bercy Arena on Sunday to roaring cheers from celebrities in the stands and millions of television viewers around the world.
After an acrobatic balance beam routine and an energetic floor exercise that featured one of the five moves named after her, she then completed a commanding Biles No. 2 vault but decided not to attempt a planned new move on the uneven bars.
She earned a total of 59.566 points, putting her atop the overall standings with three subdivisions remaining, and it's unlikely that score will change – it's the score she's used to win her three previous world championships with.
