PARIS — Stars gathered to watch Simone Biles on Sunday morning.
On the north side of the AccorHotels Arena, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen sat near plush boxes with their children, who held up American flags and white flags emblazoned with the Olympic rings. A few rows away, Tom Cruise shook hands with a smiley audience member. Snoop Dogg, in Paris as an NBC contributor, leaned back in his front-row seat.
Among those attending Sunday's ceremony were Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain, US snowboarder Shaun White and his girlfriend Nina Dobrev, with businessman David Lauren, son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren, sitting nearby.
Sunday's team qualifying event was closely watched as Biles will be competing for the first time at the 2024 Paris Olympics and is expected to add to her gold medal tally.
It's been nearly three years since the 27-year-old Biles withdrew from the team final at the Tokyo Olympics after suffering from “twisties,” a condition in which a skater loses track of her position in the air during twisting moves.
After more than a year off, she returned to competition last fall and has since reclaimed her status as one of the best gymnasts in the world, inspiring athletes and people around the world with her talent and outspokenness about mental health.
