Port of Oakland Appoints Industry Leader John C. Driscoll as Maritime Director
Driscoll brings more than 30 years of international shipping industry experience

Oakland, California – January 14, 2014 – Port of Oakland Executive Director Chris Lytle has announced the appointment of maritime industry leader John C. Driscoll as the port’s new maritime director.
“We are poised to expand our maritime business and are fortunate to have John, a proven leader in the industry, join our senior management team at this time of great opportunity,” said Port Authority Executive Director Chris Lytle. “John's private sector experience in maritime operations, marketing and sales will aid us as we expand, ultimately benefiting our business partners, customers and communities.”
Driscoll most recently served as vice president of export sales for CMA CGM (America) LLC, one of the world's leading container shipping groups. Driscoll's official start date at the Port of Oakland is January 27, 2014.
As Director of Maritime, Mr. Driscoll is responsible for building and growing the maritime business through efficient operations, stakeholder engagement and strategic planning. Mr. Driscoll will oversee all aspects of maritime operations including administration, finance, customer service, planning and development and port security.
John Driscoll has over 30 years of commercial experience in international ocean shipping having worked for Sea-Land Services, Maersk Line and CMA CGM. Mr. Driscoll has served on the CMA CGM board since 2005. He has led the company's successful expansion and development of operations in the Caribbean, Central America and northern South America, averaging double-digit growth each year. In 2008, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, overseeing sales, trading and marketing for the company's entire U.S. operations. During Mr. Driscoll's eight years with CMA CGM in the U.S., the average annual growth rate in trading volume was 14.1 percent.
Mr. Driscoll began his career with Sea-Land Services in 1980 where he held various sales and operations positions within Sea-Land's Atlantic division. In 1999 Mr. Driscoll served as General Manager of Sales and Customer Services for Central America and subsequently assumed general management responsibility for activities in Costa Rica and Nicaragua when Maersk acquired Sea-Land. In 2005, when Maersk acquired P&O Nedroid he was appointed Country Manager for Brazil to help integrate an organization with over $1 billion in revenues and 550 employees. Mr. Driscoll assumed his latest position with CMA CGM in December 2005.
Mr. Driscoll is a native of Bethesda, Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with majors in Transportation and Marketing. Mr. Driscoll is married to his wife, Linda, and they have three sons, ages 12, 16 and 18.
