An oil and gas trader, Sesan Adelabu, committed suicide over the weekend, shortly after brutally murdering his wife, Bolu, in Akure, Ondo State.
Socialite Adelabu, popularly known as “Emirates”, is said to have committed the dastardly act after he witnessed his wife cheating on him.
The victim, who owns several filling stations in the state, was assaulted at his home in an upscale residential area of Alagbaka, Akure State.
After killing his wife, Adelabu is said to have driven from his home to buy a deadly insecticide known as Sniper.
On returning home, he consumed the drug, after which he too died.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abayomi Oladipo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, who confirmed the development, disclosed that the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) would take over the case.
“Police officers attending the deceased at his home in Alagbaka area of Akure State received a call at about 6pm from the deceased child enquiring about the safety of his father.
“When officers attempted to notify the principal after he did not answer their phone calls, they found him face down in the bathroom, dead, while the body of his wife was found on the bed with multiple wounds on her head and face that appeared to be from a machete.
“An empty sniper container was also found at the scene.”
Police said the bodies of the deceased couple have been deposited at the mortuary.
