Elon Musk may be an innovator and icon to many SXSW festival-goers, but the engineer and tech mogul made it clear who he draws inspiration from: one of rap's finest.
Musk has been an outspoken admirer of Kanye West for years, and he has spoken glowingly about West's tendency to push boundaries and constantly reinvent the creative wheel. timein its annual list of influential people. time The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015, but during a SXSW Q&A on March 11, he brought that gratitude into focus today, revealing who's been turning the metaphorical Tesla's engines.

The Q&A came after Musk made a surprise cameo appearance (technically an intrusion) on the HBO show. Westworld During a panel discussion on March 10, he spoke about the sci-fi show's theme, discussing his inspiration and why it's so important to balance “all the negativity out there.”
Clearly, Musk has inspiration on his mind, and SXSW was the perfect place for him to pay tribute to one of his main motivators.
