At the beginning of the war, Lukoil expressed “deep concern over the tragic events in Ukraine” and called for an “early end to the armed conflict.”
Mr. Magnov started working for Lukoil in 1993 and became chairman of the company's board two years ago. He is the younger brother of Nail Maganov, CEO of Tatneft, another Russian oil and gas company.
Magnov is not Russia's first high-profile company A person who will die mysteriously this year.
Former Lukoil manager Alexander Subotin died in early May. His body was found in the basement of Sherman's home. Local news reports said Subotin was poisoned while seeking a cure for a hangover.
Two Gazprom executives were also found dead earlier this year. Both are believed to have died by suicide.
Sergei Protosenya, a Russian oligarch and former vice chairman of gas company Novatek, was found dead by hanging in his Spanish villa in April. His wife and daughter were also found stabbed to death at the scene.
Just a day after Protosenya's death, former Kremlin official Vladislav Avaev and his family were found dead in Moscow from gunshot wounds. Mr. Abaev previously worked at Gazprombank, one of Russia's largest banks. In both cases, police declared the deaths to be suicides.
