Jonny Greenwood is a busy man. He has toured and recorded with The Smile, composed extensive film scores, and collaborated with Israeli musician Dudu Tassa on a new album. And now Radiohead's mad scientist has added culinary entrepreneurship to his portfolio. The band's WASTE online shop now allows UK residents to purchase a bottle of Greenwood Oil, made with olives harvested from Greenwood's farm in Italy's Le Marche region. Each bottle is individually stamped with Greenwood's signature and, as it is a locally produced “artisan product”, may have surface imperfections. Unfortunately, it appears that this oil can only be shipped to addresses in the UK.
Here is the full memo from WASTE:
This extra virgin olive oil is made in Le Marche, Italy, where Johnny has lived for the past eight years when he's not making music.
All olives are grown on Johnny's farm, harvested annually by family and friends, and pressed locally.
This is the first year the farm has produced enough oil to share. So to celebrate this first commercial harvest, we are selling cans of this delicious oil signed by Johnny.
Please note that this is an artisan product, pressed and bottled on a local farm. As a result of the filling process, there may be some surface imperfections that are not seen in mass-produced products.
Enjoy this bottle while its contents are still young and fresh. It tastes best a few weeks after it is first opened (although it is safe to use it for longer than that). Also, since it is unfiltered, there is some sediment at the bottom of the can – this is normal, but it is not usually consumed.
