“I went to high school in the northern suburbs of Chicago. There was an old Time magazine article from the '90s about the wealthy students at my school smoking marijuana, “High Times at New Trier High School.'' There was an article titled, “My high school tuition was about $250,000, but there are many families who make millions of dollars a year, or more.'' There have been many strange incidents, but most One of the strangest events is graduation…”
“We will graduate at our local college's basketball stadium. The boys will wear white tuxedos and the girls will wear floor-length white ball gowns. This is a public high school! But apparently the standard hats and It looks too fancy for a gown.'' Instead, we look like a debutante ball of 1,000 people (my graduating class was about 1,050 people). Most of the children's families… People had more money than they knew what to do with, so they tried their best to choose a dress. All the boys rented standard white tuxedos (we also tried on rentals during homeroom), but the girls had to buy their own gowns. Most of my classmates bought theirs at a wedding dress shop (where else can you find floor-length white dresses?!). At least two girls I took classes with traveled abroad to find “unique” dresses. I'm not kidding, a 17 year old girl in my drama class had her parents fly her to Paris twice! Apparently, after I got home from my first trip, I decided I wanted a spare dress in case someone's dress was too similar to mine. So we fly back to Paris in first class and proceed to Round 2. She seemed surprised that some of us felt that traveling was a luxury. ”
