According to a report by UK-based real estate consultancy Knight Frank, Turkiye emerged last year as a prime candidate for the surge in the number of ultra-rich people around the world.
The report compares data from 2022 and 2023, and defines “ultra-high net worth” as people with assets of more than $30 million.
Among the 30 countries surveyed, the country secured the top spot with a jump of 9.7%. In 2022, Turkiye had 1,761 ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWIs), and in 2023, that number jumped to 1,932.
The United States followed with a 7.9% increase, followed by India with a 6.1% increase.
Globally, the number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals increased by 4.2 percent to more than 626,600. Significant increases were observed in North America (7.2%) and the Middle East (6.2%), with Latin America being the only region with a decline.
Despite concerns about the global economic slowdown, there remain optimistic expectations regarding the growth of the ultra-rich population. Experts predict that by 2028, the world's UHNWI population will increase by 28.1%.
However, despite the increase in the number of ultra-rich people, Turkiye ranks relatively low in terms of the proportion of ultra-rich people in the population. With only 23 ultra-high-net-worth individuals per million people, Turkiye lags behind other cities on this indicator.
