Jacksonville, Florida – The Republican presidential primary ended Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Votes were counted immediately after polls closed in Duval County and across the state. Florida is a closed primary state, meaning only voters registered with a particular political party can vote in that party's primary.
Duval County's election costs were nearly $1 million.
News4JAX headed to Ortega School District, one of the busiest school districts in the area, to check on voter turnout. Arlington voters also had strong results.
“It's your right to vote. You should vote. If you're going to go to this country, you should vote. It doesn't matter if you're the only one voting. I'm here to vote. It’s coming,” one voter told News4JAX.
There was one precinct that had only one voter.

Elections Director Jerry Holland said the day went well. The primaries are now over, and they are already looking ahead to the August primary and the November general election (open to all registered voters).
Mr. Holland explained the latest changes to election law.
“Those who vote by mail, this is the biggest change in the last two years. They need to update them. [requests] After the state federal election,” Holland said. “So if he hasn't voted by mail since 2022, perhaps he should contact us to get a vote by mail in August or November.”
In Jacksonville, some districts have been changed because of the lawsuit. Therefore, it is important for voters to double check their precinct location.
