On Thursday, Micah Eveland of Scamp Trailers in Bacchus was awarded the prestigious honor by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
BACKUS, Minn. — The president of the northern Minnesota company behind the ultra-popular compact egg-shaped camper was awarded a special honor Thursday by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Micah Eveland of Scamp Trailers in Bacchus has been named Minnesota's Small Business Person of the Year.
He will compete for the Small Business of the Year award during National Small Business Week in Washington, DC, the first week of May.
Made in Minnesota, Scamp campers, or “egg campers,” have been handcrafted for more than 50 years at a factory in Bacchus, population 300.
Approximately 700 fiberglass moldings are produced each year, an increase of 20% due to the factory expansion in 2022.
When it all started in 1971, the factory was producing just 130 cars a year.
The smallest Scamp trailer is only 13 feet long. The longest one is 19 feet. All Scamps are sold directly from the factory, without dealers.
Buyers can expect to pay between $19,000 and $40,000 for the Scamp, depending on size, model, and options.
You may have to wait approximately 14 months after placing your order.
Approximately 40% of our customers pick up their motorhomes at the factory. The rest have already been shipped.

Mika Eveland took over leadership of the company from his father, Kent Eveland, in 2022.
In 1971, founder Duane Eveland, Micah's grandfather and Kent's father, combined the words “small” and “camper” and branded their small travel trailer “Scamp.”
