Speaking exclusively to the Mirror ahead of the launch of her book. The Man: Not your average average girlone of WWE's biggest stars gave his opinion on celebrity part-timers who would bring new eyes to the franchise
WWE's WrestleMania XL is less than two weeks away, and with a big name match confirmed between Logan Paul and The Rock, there's already plenty of star power looking to steal the show from the main wrestlers that fans love. But while bringing in celebrities means WWE is continually breaking records for social media video views as guest star segments go viral, one of the industry's biggest names is , warned of the dangers of these familiar names being thrown into the mix.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror about the launch of her best-selling new book, Becky Lynch opened up about the frustration in the locker room over these part-time stars coming on and winning big spots.
With the characteristic honesty that makes this book a must-read, she told us:
“Whereas when you're on TV every week, when you're at every live event, you're doing the work of making these people look important, and they come in and say, ' I'm doing the grunt work so that I can say, “Hello, please let me do it.'' Wave politely to everyone. ”
“It used to be something that wrestling fans would scoff at, but now it seems like it's starting to be more respected. Like, 'Oh, this guy came along and gave us a presence.' . That makes me irritated.
“It used to be that champions would travel from place to place, flaunting their titles, and be front and center. Now that model is changing, and I'm not sure if it's for the better. You learn by being in front of the crowd all the time, and you get better when you're around people who learn by being in front of the crowd. That's what drives the business forward.”
Despite his current on-screen feud with husband Seth Rollins, WWE icon-turned-movie star Dwayne Johnson gives her permission to use his finishing move, the Rock Bottom, in his book. After giving the award, he described him as a person he described as “the best person.” Now that she's back from her injury, she hopes to highlight the difference between a wrestler who no longer has a full-time schedule and a part-time celebrity.
“Roman and Locke are an exception because they've been there before. But you start relying on these celebrities and part-timers, people who don't really know how to do this, don't understand the technology. If so, we have a problem.
“We need leaders, people who care about this issue, who think about the story, who think about their character, and who want to move it forward. Certainly, we need to get celebrity attention and get attention for our product. It's nice to have that, but we can't depend on it.”
Lynch spoke to us as part of a grueling pre-publication press schedule between appearances on WWE programming and a must-see match between her and Rhea Ripley at the biggest WrestleMania in history next weekend in Philadelphia. started a conversation.
It's the kind of overachieving multitasking anyone who reads this book would expect.
While others spent lockdown learning how to bake banana bread or binge-watching Tiger King, Lynch wrote the first draft of her brutally honest autobiography. She cites her childhood hero, hardcore legend turned bestselling author Mick Foley, as an influence in starting this process, but the comparison is even more shocking. Not your average average girl Could be the best wrestling autobiography since his iconic wrestling have a nice day .
There are no ghostwriters – in fact, she took a one-year writing course with author Neil Strauss before putting pen to paper – and this is not published by WWE's publisher. Don't get me wrong, lynching is becoming mainstream. Becky Lynch: The Man is already a bestseller for Sphere Books, whose other authors include Tom Clancy, Val McDiarmid, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Tackling everything from dealing with post-partum depression to headlining WrestleMania, she lost Charlotte Flair to C This includes some surprising asides such as why it was called -word. A must-read read For both fans and casual users who just want to know a touching story about a woman who balances real life with the realization of her dreams.
That openness is even more remarkable since Lynch (real name Rebecca Quinn) has conspicuously refused to appear on WWE's various reality shows, keeping her true personality largely secret from fans.
she tells us: “I'm asking you all to sit down and take the time to read this book. I want to give you an honest account of everything I've been through.” It has to be authentic. I think the reason I've always stayed away from reality TV is because it's not necessarily realistic and honest. ”
