(NewsNation) — It's almost certain that either President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump will win another four years in the White House in November. But do you want to vote for literally anyone else?
A high school teacher in Texas says he's your candidate. His official name is “Literally Anyone.”
“We're dealing with a situation where two of the most hated candidates in a very long time are having a rematch,” says the man formerly known as Dustin Ebey.
Els says this isn't so much a lesson for students as it is a message for all of us.
“This, to me, is a message that needs to be sent. What it means for this name to run for president is to give some kind of voice and give direction to those who resonate with that sentiment.”
Els said he has received hundreds of messages urging him to run, but arranging it will not be easy. He is asking voters to sign his name, as he will need more than 113,000 petition signatures to appear on the Texas ballot as an independent.
Asked on NewsNation's “On Balance” if there were any policies that he supported, he said, “I think policies should reflect the people who are being represented, and it's not necessarily my policy. “There's no need to say that,” he retorted.
Recent polls seem to support Els' position. In a January survey by Decision Desk HQ/NewsNation, about 59% of registered voters said they were “not very enthusiastic” or “not at all enthusiastic” about a rematch between Biden and Trump.
According to an AP-NORC Research Center poll in December, 56% of people of all party affiliations said they were “very or somewhat” dissatisfied with Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee, while about 58% said Trump was a Republican. They answered the same question regarding the possibility of becoming a candidate.
