DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Governor DeWine asked the Biden administration for a declaration to receive aid from FEMA.
If the White House accepts DeWine's request for FEMA assistance, it would provide financial aid to cover “qualified damages” caused by the March 14 tornado. It could take several months for the declaration to be approved.
DeWine has appealed to President Biden, and governors have begun processing relief from the Small Business Administration.
The governor is also working with the Cabinet to obtain financial assistance from the state to help create needy populations pending President Biden's request.
“After the recent tornadoes in Indian Lake and the surrounding area, we are committed to assisting those who lost their homes and businesses, or those whose homes and businesses were severely damaged, and are on the road to recovery. I have promised to do everything in my power to help you achieve this goal,'' DeWine said. “Today I am initiating several steps toward relief for Indian Lake and the surrounding area.”
FEMA is already in Logan County patrolling affected areas. Earlier this month, Mr. DeWine declared a state of emergency and activated the Ohio National Guard.
DeWine called for aid to the 11 affected counties.
