A five-bedroom mansion once owned by a fraudster who defrauded the Royal Mail out of £70 million is on the market after being repossessed.
The nearly £3 million property, complete with a separate pool house, was the former home of Narinder Sandhu, 62, who bought it, along with a Bentley and a Rolls-Royce, using the proceeds of an elaborate postal fraud.
Hadley Grange lives in charming Jones Village, near Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. Famous residents include Sharon Osbourne and Ozzy Osbourne, who recently moved here from Los Angeles.
The house, which has a home cinema, gym, steam room and large triple garage, is on the market for a guide price of £2.75 million.
A decade-long fraud involving the under-declaration of mail posted through a network of logistics companies in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire from 2005 pocketed millions of pounds.
Sandhu, owner of Pacpost International and the “architect” of the fraud, pleaded guilty.
A trial at Southwark Crown Court last year revealed that his declared taxable income was around £1 million a year at the end of the period during which the fraud took place.
Her brother Parmjeet Sandhu, 56, from Slough, pleaded guilty to a charge of fraudulently receiving services.
Prosecutor Ellis Saleen said Narinder Sandhu lived with his family at Hadley Grange, a “multi-million pound mansion”.
Sareen added that his younger brother, Parmjeet, was not as wealthy but still earned “a lot of money”.
“In this case, we are talking about literally tons of mail, thousands of pieces of mail.
“This has cost Royal Mail around £70 million or more. (The defendants) have not made the £70 million, but they have made a profit.”
By 2016, so many companies were being run by the group that they were “starting to forget” where they were, Saleen said.
The fraud was first discovered after Royal Mail customers claimed competitors were offering unrealistic prices.
When investigators became suspicious of the group's companies, all of their mail was diverted and inspected, at which point it was determined that their postings had been “significantly underreported,” prosecutors said.
James Ashworth, partner at Landwood Property Auctions, which is selling the house, said:
“The property is on a south-facing site, with vacant land just beyond the boundary, and extends to almost an acre, offering great potential for any buyer to add a bit of TLC, renovation or perhaps an extension to what is there.” You can also renovate or rebuild your home to put your own stamp on it.
“With access to London within an hour via the M40 and A4 motorways, this is an opportunity not to be missed.”
