Ashley C. Adirika ’26 and Jonathan Haileselasi ’26 will serve as the next co-presidents of the Harvard Undergraduate Association, the HUA Elections Committee announced in a Sunday afternoon email obtained by The Crimson.
Adirika and Haileslassier currently serve as HUA's Inclusion Officer and Social Life Officer, respectively.
The two men, who ran on the platform of building a “unified Harvard University,” will take over a student government that has faced unprecedented controversy in recent days.
Current HUA co-chairs Shikoh M. Hirabayashi '24 and John S. Cook '25 faced petitions for removal votes last week. The petition against Cook has gathered enough signatures to warrant a recall election, which must be held by April 15, according to HUA's constitution and bylaws.
Students cast 1,455 votes in this year's election, representing a decrease in turnout of nearly 500 votes (26 percent) compared to last year's election, when 1,954 votes were cast.
Candidates were selected using a ranked choice voting system. Adirika and Haile Selassie defeated runners-up Pratyush Mallick, President of the Institute of Political Studies, and Kevin A. Bokoum ’25 by 135 votes in the final vote, with Kaia I. Brooks and Dakota A. Degenhardt ’25 coming in third. It became.
The HUA Elections Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday afternoon.
