To the editor:
Although Florida requires you to choose a party to vote in the primary, I have always been an independent voter. I have voted for both Republicans and Democrats in past elections, and while my choices have not always won, the winners have always been knowledgeable, businesslike, gentlemanly, and proud of our country throughout their terms. He did his best for me.
This brings us to the topic of the upcoming presidential election. I'm not happy with either choice, but I have a big problem with former President Trump. He is clearly an egoist, promising retribution for those who disagreed with him in the past and amnesty for those sent to prison for participating in the Capitol riot.
He has been consistently proven to have paid prostitutes, cheated on deals, incited the riot at the Capitol, and lied about all sorts of things. This does not include all court cases in which he was charged with felonies. He also diminished America's standing around the world by praising dictators and withdrawing the United States from allies-backed groups.
It's clear that our southern border is a problem, just as the prices of many of our nation's basic goods remain too high. The U.S. deficit remains too high, but I think overall we're making progress, which I don't think was the case under President Trump.
So the question becomes, “Do we want to be represented by a president who clearly has no moral compass, who praises dictators, who does not uphold the U.S. Constitution, and whose actions alienate allies?” Become.
Neither President Bush nor President Reagan exhibited such character flaws.
Obviously the choice is ours. I hope we can make the right choice.
