American television host and former CNN employee Don Lemon had an astronomical list of demands when negotiating a deal with Elon Musk to produce shows on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter). According to the NY Post, the company was reportedly in the process of being unceremoniously canned by SpaceX's CEO last month.
In addition to free space travel, a $5 million upfront payment and stock in Company X, Lemon also reportedly asked for the latest four-wheeled status symbol, Tesla's Cybertruck, according to the magazine. Lemon's representatives denied this, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Kim Kardashian, Jay-Z and Justin Bieber have all been spotted riding in the truck in recent weeks. Steve Aoki joined the ranks of Cybertruck owners in March, posting an enthusiastic video that Musk later re-shared.
Despite the hype, some experts question whether the latest sighting is just a grand marketing plan orchestrated by Tesla. Either way, high-profile endorsements seem to be working in the EV company's favor.
“It has a must-have image,” Winston Chesterfield, founder of Burton, a London consulting firm focused on high-net-worth individuals, previously told us. “If you're a high-end person who wants to be noticed, the Cybertruck is a must-have.”
But with that said, the Cybertruck has drawn criticism from safety experts, with Reuters reporting that the car's exoskeleton could harm pedestrians and cyclists, and even damage other vehicles. They have expressed concern that it may be sexually transmitted. The Verge added that the Cybertruck may not be able to adequately protect drivers and passengers because it lacks a “crumple zone” that typically absorbs some of the impact of a crash.
