5 Hollywood Celebrities Talk About the Power of Prayer
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian celebrities often use their platforms to spread the gospel. From Chris Pratt telling America's youth to pray to Mark Wahlberg revealing he starts each day with a prayer, Hollywood celebrities talk about their prayer lives on social media and in the press. It's refreshing to see mainstream actresses and actors openly talk about their faith.
Danica McKellar
Fans may remember Danica McKellar from her role as Winnie Cooper on the hit comedy THE WONDER YEARS. The actress has appeared on “Dancing with the Stars” and a number of Hallmark movies, and has found a home starring in the GAC family of films. She gave her life to Christ in her 2022 and embarked on a journey to read the entire Bible in one year.
McKellar took part in an Instagram livestream to share her thoughts on the Lord's Prayer and forgiveness.
“Whether you're a Christian or not, or whatever your faith is, I think there's something very interesting about the Lord's Prayer,” McKellar said during the livestream. “There's praise, there's something we ask for, and there's one thing we give in return. One of those things is that we have to forgive those who have done us wrong.”
“What's interesting is that the whole prayer (and the Bible says that Jesus taught his disciples to pray this way) is about what we do to get everything we want. There's one thing you have to do,” McKellar continued. God, we must forgive those who have done terrible things to us. That’s one of the hardest things, right?”
roma downey
Award-winning actress Roma Downey is best known for her role in the TV series Touched by an Angel. She stars in the family drama The Baxters and posted a video of the series' characters praying on Instagram, highlighting the need for representation of praying families in Hollywood.
Roma captioned the post:
“The Baxter family reminds us that prayer can change lives 🙏🏼Remember the last time you saw people praying on a TV series? Not often, right? So many people have told me how much they enjoy seeing families on TV dramas that reflect their values. But we don't see many stories of people of faith. My Irish father used to say, “A family that prays together stays together'' 🙏🏼Prayer can change your life. That changed me. mark wahlberg
Former bad boy Mark Wahlberg may have started his career playing unsavory characters in movies like Boogie Nights and the TED series, but he's made a career out of creating positive, family-friendly content. I have dedicated it. The actor is a devout Catholic and frequently speaks about his faith in the press.
Wahlberg was asked about his daily prayer habits in an interview with TODAY and answered candidly.
“That's the most important thing,” he said. “Now I take two days off from the gym a week. I express my gratitude for my blessings. And of course I want to use the talents and gifts that God has given me to help and inspire others and to know what is right and to do so. I ask for the strength and guidance to do so.”
chris pratt
The actor gave an unforgettable acceptance speech when accepting the MTV Our Generation Award, in which he shared “Generation Award Winner Chris Pratt's 9 Rules.” Most of his speech was scatological humor, but he ended verses 8 and 9 with references to prayer and sharing the gospel with America's youth.
“No. 8: Learn to pray. It’s easy and it’s really good for the soul,” he said.
“And finally, number 9: no one is perfect. People will tell you, “You're perfect just the way you are.” you're not! you are imperfect You always will be. But there is a powerful force that designed you that way. And if you are willing to accept it, grace will be given to you. And grace is a gift. ”
“And just like the freedoms we enjoy in this country, that benefit was paid for with someone's blood. Don't forget that. Don't take it for granted. ”
“god bless you.”
candace cameron bure
Candace Cameron Bure is best known as the adorable DJ Tanner on the hit sitcom Full House. The actress is an outspoken Christian in Hollywood and speaks often about her faith. She is the Chief Creative Officer of her Great American Family, a production company specializing in creating faith-based content.
Bure, along with his brother Kirk Cameron, shared their personal experience with prayer on the series Kirk Cameron takeout.
“God doesn't always answer prayers the way we want them to, but that's very important.” [to pray] Because it not only unites us with the Lord, but also says, “Lord, no matter what happens, I depend on you.” But if you reach out to God, pray and ask, you'll be surprised,” Bure said. “If you don't have a prayer life, if you don't know how to pray, you're just talking to God.”
