Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s campaign announced Tuesday that the independent campaign has collected enough signatures to be placed on the 2024 presidential ballot, adding another option for student voters in the general election.
After leaving the Democratic Party in October 2023, Kennedy announced he would run as an independent challenger to both parties' current candidates, current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Kennedy faces the challenge of collecting enough signatures in every state to appear on the presidential election ballot. This effort is not only expensive, but also time-consuming.
In Nebraska, the threshold for signatures on a ballot is 2,500. The campaign has collected more than 4,800 signatures, according to a press release from the Kennedy team.
According to the Kennedy campaign, Kennedy visited Nebraska in December and drew a crowd of nearly 600 people. Campaign representatives handed out signature forms to participants in hopes of mobilizing participants to collect signatures for the campaign in Nebraska.
Nebraska is the seventh state in which Kennedy has received enough signatures to qualify for the general election ballot, a list that also includes Hawaii, Utah, Idaho, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Nevada. .
In March, Kennedy announced he would run for office against Nicole Shanahan, a technology lawyer and entrepreneur from San Francisco. If Shanahan is elected, she will become the first Chinese American and second female vice president. She will also be the youngest vice president ever elected.
