Coachella is about more than just the music and headline acts. Held each April, the festival brings together big stars to the desert landscape of Indio, California. From the icons of the 2000s to the celebrities who defined his 2010s, take a look back at the luminaries who have defined this music festival.
Coachella is synonymous with spring, but the first Coachella took place in the fall of 1999 and was headlined by Beck and Rage Against the Machine. The second edition of this festival was held two years later in April 2001, and I realized how popular it was. In 2006, Daft Punk took the stage for their iconic set, marking a watershed moment for music and Coachella.
Celebrities soon followed suit. In 2007, Cameron Diaz and Jessica Alba were seen watching a performance in the crowd, and Danny DeVito was photographed meeting performer Amy Winehouse backstage. . DeVito also later posed for a photo with subversive singer Peaches. Because festivals are full of surprises.

Paris Hilton became an early Coachella regular, rocking fishtail side braids and a bohemian tunic in 2007, before graduating to flower crowns (blue in 2012, classic in 2014). In 2015, she traded in her floral headpiece for dazzling cat ears and was photographed walking through the festival grounds hand-in-hand with her sister Nicky Hilton.
Coachella also chronicled their relationship history. In 2009, Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon were spotted watching a performance by Rilo Kylie singer Jenny Lewis. Beyoncé and Maria Shriver attended Jay-Z's set side by side in 2010, and Katy Perry and Rihanna's BFF friendship was on full display at the 2012 festival.

Coachella is also a place where trends start. In 2012, Vanessa He Hudgens sparked the Flower His Crown craze and has been a Coachella mainstay ever since.
The 2010s saw the rise of branded events and even more celebrities flocked to the desert. In 2013, Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas played ping pong at a Guess party, while an H&M party drew stars including Darren Criss, Aaron Paul, Gigi Hadid and the Haim sisters. Revolve has become a favorite store for influencers and the Kardashian family, and in 2023, Timothée Chalamet stopped by. In 2018, Levi's brunch served up a pairing of Bella with his Hadid and Snoop with his Dogg. When Jeremy Scott was creative director at Moschino, the brand's parties were a night out for A-list celebrities like Fergie, Gigi Hadid, Cardi B and Diplo.
