One of the fun-loving and charismatic faces on Salve's campus is none other than Faith O'Hara, Class of 2024. She asked other students to describe her and received rave reviews.
“She's bright, kind and outgoing,” 24-year-old Olivia Forbes told me.
Colleen Faucher described the Seahawk celebrity as “bubbly, nurturing, and philanthropic.”
“Why am I qualified for this role?” is the first question O'Hara asks me when we sit down for an interview. As we chat over coffee in Miley's lounge, she's still wearing her red coat after a hard day educating America's young minds.
“I think celebrity is a strong word,” she admits. All I can say is that I have made many good friends here. ” Some of these best friends were made at Moore Hall during my sophomore year. It was the first fall that many would agree was when COVID-19 restrictions began to ease and Salve's community began to return to its former self. “That was the year I met my best friend and best friends. I lived in an eight-person girls' room, and now we're all taking graduation photos together in a few weeks.”
When I asked Faith what she was looking forward to most about the rest of her Seahawk career, as she graduates in a little over a month, she immediately thought of the girls. “I hang out with friends and go to Salve events as much as I can within my schedule…It makes me sad to think about leaving everyone soon,” she told me. “I'm scared of people moving, so what I want to do is see my friends as much as possible.” As an active senior, I share the same feeling of wanting to enjoy time while I can.
Faith is currently teaching students at Melville Elementary School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Judging by her personality, her classroom is definitely a very excited one, and her students don't know what's going to happen next. “I love my students!” Ms. O'Hara immediately shouted to me as we came to her classroom.
In 10 years, Faith hopes to have the lifestyle that many others aspire to. “I want a stable, comfortable job in a school district I love, doing what I love, and returning home to my beautiful family.”
Faith feels that she owes a lot to her professors and colleagues at the Salve Regina Faculty of Education. “The educational experience that Salve provided me with her was an amazing and transformative experience,” she said. She said, “I met some great people and became great friends with teachers and students from other schools during my student teaching.”
In terms of campus involvement, Faith participated in numerous activities. She is probably best known for her work as an orientation leader. “Freshman Orientation” (formerly Faith's “Welcome Week” for her Class of 2024) is an exhausting week for orientation leaders and new students alike, guiding the new Seahawks to campus and the Newport community. . “Serving as an orientation leader for the past three years at Salve is also one of my fondest memories of her. I met so many great people and had a great time as a student leader.”
Faith is also the public relations coordinator for the Student Education Association (SEA), Salve Regina's education club for all education students. Follow @salvesea account on Instagram.
Students like Faith make the Salve experience so enjoyable. A fun, outgoing person and a mother to the campus community, Faith will be missed not only in the School of Education next fall, but throughout Newport. In the meantime, feel free to invite her to sit and let her wings rest for a bit before she takes off wherever she goes. I have a feeling she would say that.
