President Joe Biden said he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Iran threatened to attack Israel in response to an attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria. The president said the United States' commitment to Israel is “ironclad.”
“They are threatening to launch a major attack on Israel,” President Biden said at a White House press conference with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. “We will do everything in our power to keep Israel safe.”
US intelligence agencies reported Wednesday that a major attack on Israel by Iran is imminent. Gen. Eric Kurilla, the commander of U.S. Central Command, is coordinating with Israel what would happen if such an attack were to occur.
Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that Israel “will respond very quickly with decisive offensive action against the territory of anyone who attacks our territory, anywhere in the entire Middle East.”
