It was a star-studded celebration for the late Jimmy Buffett.
On Thursday, April 11th, an eclectic group of performers and artists gathered at the Hollywood Bowl to pay tribute to the iconic singer-songwriter.
“Keep the Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett” features Paul McCartney, the Eagles, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Zac Brown, Jackson Browne, Brandi Carlyle, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, It was a celebration of Buffett's life and career along with Sheryl Crow.
But it wasn't everyone, as Scottie Emerick, Jack Johnson, Caroline Jones, Mac McAnally, Jake Owen, Coral Reefer Band, Dave Grohl, and other special guests took to the stage.
A video shared on TikTok by @amandapaulak pans around a stage full of unexpected stars while celebrating music icons.
Hollywood's elite, including Harrison Ford, Woody Harrelson, Jane Fonda, Will Arnett and Judd Apatow, also sing “Margaritaville.”
It was a special night not only for those in attendance, but also for the artists who paid tribute to their late friend.
In a video taken by Kate Cordova on her @ConcertKate TikTok, McCartney talked about how it was a “great joy” to know the late legend, calling him “a great man.”
“He was generous, funny, and accomplished almost everything in life,” he said, recalling going on vacation with Buffett. “I was on vacation with him and he forgot to bring his guitar. He had his own guitar and for me he was left-handed.”
“And the next time I saw him, he had custom left-handed shoes for me,” McCartney said. He added that during the last week of Mr. Buffett's life, he was invited to his home to sing a few songs for Mr. Buffett. “He still had that sparkle in his eyes.”
He then sang “One of the Songs I Sang To Him Tonight,” followed by “Let It Be.”
Buffett died on September 1 at the age of 76 after a four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1, surrounded by family, friends, music, and his dog,” a statement on Buffett's official website said. “He lived a life of song until his last breath and will be missed immeasurably by many.”
Mr. Buffett is survived by his wife, Jane Slugsvoll, who Mr. McCartney thanked during the performance for coordinating the memorial concert. The late singer had three children: her daughters Savannah and Sarah, and her son Cameron.
