President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are statistically evenly matched, within the margin of error, according to the latest NBC News poll. In a head-to-head race, Trump leads Biden 46% to 44%. However, if independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy is included in the poll, Biden has 39%, Trump 37% and Kennedy 13%.
That is, according to the NBC poll (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24564257-240126-nbc-april-2024-poll-4-21-2024) conducted by Hart Research Associates in collaboration with Public Opinion Strategies. (-Release), Kennedy is stealing more votes from Trump than Biden.
NBC News political data guru Steve Kornacki said the same thing to Kristen Welker on Meet the Press. “We see Trump supporters flipping to Kennedy by more than a 2-to-1 margin.”
When Kennedy's name is added to the polls, 15% of Trump voters shift to Kennedy, compared to just 7% of Biden voters.
Both President Biden and former President Trump have “slumping'' approval ratings, with Biden's disapproval rating at 52% and Trump's disapproval rate at 52%.
Inflation and the economy, immigration and the border were the top two issues cited by voters in the poll. Regarding these two issues, President Biden's approval rating on the economy was 39% approval and 59% disapproval. On border security and immigration, Biden had a 28% approval rating and 69% disapproval.
When asked who has the better economy, Trump leads Biden 52% to 30%. When asked which candidate has the necessary physical and mental health, Trump leads Biden 45% to 26%.
Also included in the survey are Green Party candidate Jill Stein (3%) and independent candidate Cornel West (2%). All three third-party independent candidates are currently seeking to appear on the ballot in all 50 states. Kennedy's campaign is far ahead of Stein and West in the national presidential vote.
When asked whether Biden, Trump, or Kennedy were viewed enthusiastically or favorably, Trump led with 41%, followed by Biden with 38% and Kennedy with 31%.
