Angela Hernandez began her entrepreneurial journey by seeking guidance from the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at the University of A (ASBTDC, UA). She brought with her a fresh and innovative business idea, and she knew that starting a business would require time, money, and sacrifice.
Understanding the need for extensive planning and accurate market testing, Hernandez spent a year thoroughly researching whether his business concept had real potential and could generate interest. I did. She started by testing the idea of a sewing studio with her friend's children and had the opportunity to work on an important step in opening a new business: identifying the target market and the needs of potential customers. I did. During this time, she carefully evaluated her financial projections to ensure the business was sustainable.
Once Hernandez was convinced of the strong market appeal of his idea and the interest of potential customers, he took the plunge and opened his dream studio in Bentonville. This studio is more than just a sewing school. We offer project-based sewing classes for children. This method promotes active learning and participation, making it a dynamic and creative experience for young learners. In addition to these regular classes, the studio has diversified its offerings, including summer camps and sewing courses for adults, broadening its appeal and accessibility.
Hernandez's career is rich and varied. She has a degree in psychology and extensive experience working with nonprofit organizations such as Save the Children. This background in child development is invaluable to her business. Her passion for sewing and designing began in her childhood and has evolved over the years. She began teaching her friends' children to sew and found a new outlet and purpose, combining her professional knowledge with her personal interests to build her fulfilling career path.
Ms. Hernandez is grateful for the support of ASBTDC Consultant Carolina Mejia. “She gave me a roadmap, and that's what I needed to understand my business,” Hernandez said. “She provided me with a wide range of resources and strategies, from planning and marketing to legal and regulatory compliance.” With this guidance, Hernandez made solid plans for the future and Her sewing ensured the success of her studio.
