(NewsNation) — Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will announce he will be on the ballot in California this November.
He secured the nomination of the conservative American Independence Party.
But the Secretary of State's office won't certify the candidate until late August, leaving him on the ballot along with President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in the state's 54-person field, the largest number of electors in the state. become.
That includes Wednesday's announcement that Mr. Kennedy will be on the ballot in four states.
He will appear on Utah's ballot as an independent. Two weeks ago, he gained access to the vote in Michigan, a key battleground state, through another small party.
He will also be on the Hawaii ballot through a newly formed political party created to nominate him.
The campaign says it has collected enough signatures to reach the ballot in six other states, including North Carolina, New Hampshire and Nevada.
He's also working to get people on the ballot in New York state.
Recently, President Trump has stepped up his attacks on Kennedy, calling him a Democrat and saying that voting for him would be a waste of protest votes.
The DNC is paying for ads comparing Kennedy to Trump because they have a mutual donor.
But Kennedy says he is a threat to both camps because he can defeat them both.
“President Kennedy said, “In terms of favorability ratings, he leads President Trump and President Biden.'' “If it was a head-to-head matchup between just President Biden and me, I would have won him by a landslide. I would be the only one to go head-to-head with President Trump and beat him…and President Biden cannot beat him.”
Kennedy is aiming to get on the ballot in another state, Texas.
With 40 electoral votes, it is the second-largest state after California in terms of electoral votes.
