“Art of the Deal” co-author Tony Schwartz told MSNBC's Ari Melber on Tuesday that he's all for a presidential debate between President Biden and Republican challenger Donald Trump. . The event will “terrify” “sense” viewers, he said, adding that unsettled voters will be pushed to support Biden.
“Well, I think rational people, including swing voters, would be horrified to see President Trump in this debate,” Schwartz said on “The Beat.” “So from the perspective of the people who are going to make a difference in this election, I think I'm all for debate.”
Schwartz added: “Even if Biden isn't perfect, Trump will be extremely imperfect as well. That's something that people who are still interested in rationality need to understand.”
At the beginning of the segment, Schwartz admitted he was “a little surprised” that Trump “hasn't gotten upset yet” as the New York hush money trial progresses. “There's pressure on him and I don't think there's much more punishment,” he said. “I was thinking about this. There are few worse punishments for Donald Trump than not being able to converse. And almost equally, not being able to govern.”
