At the 2024 Met Gala, many celebrities broke one of the fashion extravaganza's biggest rules: no cell phones.
On May 6th, some of Hollywood's biggest stars visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. After walking the red carpet in their best looks (some of which matched the event's “Garden of Time” dress code), the stars entered the gala venue, where they posed for a few photos. Without hesitation, I broke the social ban. media protocol.
For example, Ayo Edebiri shared a selfie she took inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art on her Instagram Stories during the gala. In her photo, she posed with musician Troye Sivan and three of her hit movie co-stars. bottomsNicholas Galitzine, Kaia Gerber, Rachel Sennott.
In the caption of a selfie that also included a stage inside the museum, Edebiri quipped, “Bottoms 2 feet @ Troesivan?”
Singer Cardi B also shared a video on her Instagram Stories on Monday night of herself smiling and waving at the camera at a table in a museum. In another video, Cardi B went on to film basketball star Angel Reese sitting next to her.
“Happy Birthday to my one and only,” the singer wrote in the caption, as the Met Gala happened to be Reese's 22nd birthday.
That wasn't the end of her barrage of social media posts from the gala, Lizzo also shared a video on TikTok from a bathroom at the Metropolitan Museum of Art during the Met Gala. As she filmed herself dancing in the toilet, she was joined by Uma Thurman and Stella McCartney.
She simply wrote in the caption, “Met in the bathroom.”
One of the main rules of the Met Gala for many years is that no phones are allowed. In 2015, it was first reported that social media use was banned at events in a bid to crack down on celebrities spending much of their evenings on their phones. The Met Gala phone ban has been flouted by many guests in the past, with beauty mogul and reality TV star Kylie Jenner being arrested in the bathroom at the 2017 event along with numerous other attendees. I was taking a selfie.
Article about this year's Met Gala trend Earlier this month, the magazine further emphasized its no-phone and no-social media policy, noting that what happens inside fashion events is “secret.”
In an interview with Jenna Bush Hager shared hours before this year's Met Gala, event organizer Anna Wintour spoke about the cell phone ban and why she believes it is beneficial. He spoke without hesitation.
“I love it when people say after dinner, 'I just had the most amazing conversation,'” says Winter. “It's the idea that you can live life without photos on your phone.” Ta.
As set by Winter, this year's dress code was “Garden of Time.” Inspired by JG Ballard's 1962 short story, guests are expected to depict the ephemeral beauty of Count Axel's declining garden. The Elizabethan era may be utilized in imitation of conservation concepts and organic elements such as floral decoration.
The annual fashion event coincided with the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute's exhibition “Sleeping Beauty: Fashion's Awakening.” Among the exhibits were 250 items from the Costume Institute's permanent collection, some dating back to the Elizabethan era.
