Can you imagine being invited to a party and having to pay a fortune to attend? Well, that's exactly what the Met Gala is.
This star-studded event is arguably one of fashion's biggest nights and takes place on the first Monday of May each year.
The Met Gala debuted in 1948 as a fundraiser for the fledgling Costume Institute.
The brainchild behind the fundraiser was fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert.
Since Lambert hosted the first ball, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has taken over the reins. She has been the main chairperson of her gala events since 1995.
Wintour oversees the benefits committee and guest list, selecting those who will co-host the glamorous event with her. This year's hosts were Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth.
When Lambert organized the Met Gala, tickets reportedly cost just $50.
But fast forward to 2024 and that is no longer the case.

In fact, ticket prices are now thought to be 1,500 times more expensive.
A single ticket reportedly costs a hefty $75,000.
Meanwhile, a 10-seat table costs at least $350,000, according to BBC News.
But many celebrities won't be able to cover the cost of the star-studded night themselves. Fashion houses have been known to buy tables and invite celebrity guests in exchange for having one of their designs worn on famous red carpets.
For example, designer Stella McCartney attended last night's (May 6) event, along with Ed Sheeran, Cara Delevingne, FKA Twigs, and Sheeran's wife Cherry Seaborn. All four celebrities wore McCartney's designs, and FKA Twigs and Delevingne's looks debuted McCartney's new collaboration with lab-grown diamond creator Vrai.

There are a lot of bold fashion statements made at the Met Gala, so you'd expect some of them to be controversial, but that's no stranger to Kim Kardashian.
Kardashian's outfit at this year's event divided critics, with some labeling her outfit “unhealthy.”
The 43-year-old wore a red corset dress of the year. green – Showing off her amazing waist on the carpet.
Noting the uncomfortable-looking dress, people said they thought the star looked “distressed.”
Elsewhere, some people raised health concerns about wearing a corset, saying it “may reduce lung capacity.”
UNILAD has contacted Kardashian's representatives for comment.
