The 2024 Cannes Film Festival begins. Celebrities are coming to the south of France, and fashion fans from all over the world are taking notice. If you're like me, you may have admired the red carpet looks without realizing that celebrities adhere to Cannes' strict dress code. Actually, film festivals have rules regarding what to wear for screenings, and over the past few years some sleazy celebrities have broken the rules.
To stay up-to-date, here's exactly what the official Cannes Film Festival website says about the dress code. “To attend a gala screening, a dinner jacket (tuxedo) or evening dress with a bow tie is required. If this is not available, cocktail dresses, dark pantsuits, dressy tops and black pants, black dresses, black Or you can wear a midnight blue suit and bow tie.”
Here's where it gets interesting. This law also includes precautions regarding footwear. “You need elegant shoes, with or without heels. Trainers [sneakers] is prohibited. We ask attendees to avoid bringing backpacks, totes, or large bags. Kristen Stewart has always broken fashion rules, wearing “forbidden” sneakers in 2016 and walking the red carpet completely nude in 2018.
