Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley won a significant share of the vote in three Republican primaries held on Tuesday, despite dropping out of the race more than two months ago.
According to election results from Decision Desk Headquarters, Haley won 20% of the vote in Maryland, beating former President Trump's 80%. In Nebraska, she won 18% of the vote compared to Trump's 80.1%. The former U.N. ambassador also received 9.4% of the vote in West Virginia, compared to 88.4% for the former president.
Haley, who suspended her presidential campaign in March, also gained support in Indiana last week, winning 21.7% of the primary vote. He also received more than 150,000 votes in last month's Pennsylvania primary.
The figures come as the former ambassador faces speculation about his next steps, including rumors that he might join Mr Trump's bid to retake the White House as his running mate. A weekend report from Axios suggested she was considering it, but President Trump denounced the idea in a post on Truth Social the same day.
“Nikki Haley is not being considered for vice president, but we wish her the best!” the former president wrote.
Even after giving up her bid for the White House, Haley did not support Trump, insisting that she needed to win the support of voters.
With a significant portion of Republican voters apparently unwilling to support President Trump, President Biden and his campaign are making moves to woo these potential voters into their camp.
“Donald Trump has made it clear that he doesn't want a Nikki Haley supporter,” Biden said in March. “Let me be clear: They have a place in my campaign.”
