A helicopter carrying the Iranian president was involved in an accident, state media reported.
State media reported that President Ebrahim Raisi was on board the helicopter that experienced a hard landing on Sunday.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian is also said to have been on board.
The interior minister said rescue teams were still trying to reach the scene due to severe weather conditions.
The condition of those on board the helicopter is currently unknown, and some reports say they have not yet been contacted.
According to local media, after returning from the border with Azerbaijan, President Raisi headed to the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, where he inaugurated the Qiz Karashid and Khodafarin dams.
According to a Fars News Agency reporter, heavy fog is making the search difficult at the site where the helicopter may have landed.
Visibility in mountainous and forested areas was reduced to just 5 meters, he said.
This area is approximately 50 km north of Tabriz.
Ahmad Alirezabeigi, an Iranian lawmaker from Tabriz city, told reporters in Tehran that rescue workers had not yet located the helicopter carrying the president and foreign minister.
He added that the other two helicopters in the convoy landed safely.
Other officials were also said to be on board the missing helicopter.
A video showing worshipers praying for the president's health in the holy city of Mashhad was shown on state television.
Who is Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi?
Raisi, 63, won his second presidential election in 2021. He is considered a hard-line cleric and seen as a possible successor to Ayatollah Khamenei, the country's supreme leader since 1989.
In 2019, the supreme leader appointed him to the powerful post of attorney general.
Raisi was also elected vice-chairman of the Council of Experts, an 88-member executive body responsible for selecting the next supreme leader.
