Man taken to hospital after shooting in front of business in southwest OKC
A man shot in southwest Oklahoma City was taken to a hospital Monday and underwent surgery.
This is Coco Five News with Six Tornadoes. Hail the size of baseballs and strong winds blew through the state overnight. Four people were injured. Power was out in parts of Oklahoma, leaving several homes and buildings damaged and new. 6:00, A story of survival. That's what Couple and Hydro called last night as they drove through a tornado. Coco Meghan Mosley joins us live and says, Meghan, they're just grateful to be alive. Well, the Shermans were standing inside their mobile homes when that tornado came into town. In the blink of an eye, the tornado actually struck their home, moving it far away and burying it in rubble. Yes, we are still trying to figure out what is what. I was yelling for a call, and you know, Babe, Babe. And I finally heard his voice and just yelled, stay still! Just let it pass, let it pass. Shermans recount the moment they drove through Tornado and Hydro late Sunday night. This is where the roof first landed when it flipped over and rolled once more before breaking, and then the rest of it rolled once more. A total of 3 rolls and a mobile his home on a 100 year old farmland. Now leveled, the damage and devastation remains. Check out our mattresses. I don't know where or how it ended, but it happened. The tornado turns their house upside down and takes them with it. Then I stood up and looked out the kitchen window. And I said I wasn't going to stand near that window because I saw it moving. Then, after taking two steps, the house moved. And I said, it's too late, babe. They say it's the best destruction in the blink of an eye. Cole said there were no reports of fatalities in the town of Hydro, but he knows how powerful tornadoes can be and is lucky he survived. We are some of the few who survived because not many survive. We are very grateful for that. I sprained my ankle. We have big bruises and cuts here and there, but we're alive. That's all we can ask for. I don't know where we are right now, but we're here to tell the story. Hydro officials also told us that another person was taken to the hospital. But the shamans have now begun a cleanup campaign and are on a mission to spread the message that mobile homes are not safe places. Speaking of which, we're currently learning preliminary how powerful some of these tornadoes were. I've received several more ratings in the last 10 minutes. So let me show you the latest information. So F2 is now leaving for Cluster City F1. That becomes a hydro tornado. And now we have tornadoes in Canadian counties, F1 and F2, even F2 winds. Current wind speeds are around 135 mph and about 6 to 10 tornadoes. There are other ongoing reports near Waynoka. So we still have a ways to go here. Before all data can be collected. But these are all the tornado warnings we've had so far this year. Now we sit at approx. 80 tornadoes. The first period, as you know, is five and a half months of the year. There is typically an average of 58 tornadoes throughout the year. So we're way above average. And this map gives at least a basic picture of the severe weather and tornado warnings that have occurred in Oklahoma this year. If you look at the number of tornado warnings here compared to the square miles of each state, you'll see that Texas had fewer, while Oklahoma had more. And as we move toward Missouri, southern Iowa, and Ohio, we're seeing quite a few of them as well. And it's still going to continue. There is a risk of stormy weather tomorrow. Latest tornado threat. Followed by Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It's almost here. Jess. Damon, imagine evacuating your home if there's a tornado warning. That's what happened to people last night after lightning started this massive fire right next to their homes. Coco Alice Jones is performing at Rockwell on the 23rd. Elise, you were talking to your family and worried about losing everything. This is the site where a tank battery caught fire. But if you look to the right here, this is the Williamsburg apartment. Well, we talked to families here and they said this street is full of smoke. And dozens of people, including small children, were running to find safety. A boom followed by a panic in a local housing complex. I saw black smoke. Smoke could be seen all the way from Lake Alma. I mean, it's near our house. Lydia Lucas saw the smoke and rushed home, but she said she was met by firefighters rushing to the street and five stories above her. They said they could feel the heat even in the helicopter. The tank battery burst into flames just a few meters from her apartment. There were fires everywhere. At one point, you can even see the Bethany Water Tower, Lucas said. Security personnel went door to door, asking residents to evacuate. And if people run away, we could lose everything. Anyone can lose everything. It's not just me, the entire community here could have lost everything. Even as a 9-year-old, she knew she had to put on a brave face. She was pretty scary. Oh, I really wanted to protect my family from this, so I started trying to stay on guard. Be brave like your mama taught me. So I was able to protect my family. But the nightmare didn't end there. We were told to evacuate, but sirens blared. We had nowhere to go. Shortly after, a tornado warning occurred and residents were trapped outside. There were people lining up here by the middle school, lining up against the fence, crying, kids crying. It was terrible. And I wasn't the only one worried. I kept telling her mother that I was just like all these kids, she said. Now I wish I had a house big enough to accommodate my whole family. Fortunately, we hear there were no injuries to residents or first responders as the fire was extinguished and residents were allowed to return around 11 p.m. Alise Jones Coco Five News reporting live from Bethany. scared. There is a high possibility that it was caused by a lightning strike. He said lightning also ignited the grass. near. Crews had to decontaminate the area. Now, on a different note, a kayaker went missing tonight at Carl Blackwell Lake. Authorities say the 20-year-old from Enid was kayaking with his family when he was reported missing. KOC-O's Kylie Thomas joins us live, and Kylie, you're there as the search and recovery continues. As you know, it's been over 24 hours since Brendan Harrington was last seen. Osu police said the 20-year-old boy told his family he intended to kayak from one end of the lake to the other, but Brendan never returned. We found the kayak he was in, but it was full of water. A full-scale search is underway for a missing 20-year-old boy from Carl Blackwell Lake. Osu police said Brendan Harrington was kayaking across the lake when his family reported him missing just before 4 p.m. Sunday. A family had just come here to go kayaking, enjoying a good start to summer, and the man started making a path from one side of the lake to the other. The dive team began searching the waters and identifying the coastline. They are conducting a grid search of the area where the kayaker was last seen. Within 30 minutes, authorities found Brendan's kayak. We were told he didn't have a life jacket. Police said they do not know what caused Brendan to fall into the lake, but said the wind had picked up over the next few hours. Police said the long passage of time and the extensive search of the coastline from water and air made it unlikely Brendan would be found alive. As I said before, we really believe that this is probably a recovery effort at this point. Last night's storm forced authorities to suspend search and rescue efforts. Those teams came back here at 6:30 this morning and were wandering the lake looking for Brendan.report inside

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Oklahoma City Police responded to the Family Dollar incident in the area of Southwest 13th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The man was sitting in the back of the store when another man approached him on a bicycle. Police said the two then got into an argument, and the man on the motorcycle pulled out a gun and fired one shot. The first man sitting in the back of the store was shot in the hip.
