Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to run for the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination at the party's convention in Washington, D.C., on Sunday.
Kennedy, who spoke at the convention on Friday and was nominated by delegates on the convention floor on Sunday, was booed by other delegates when he announced his candidacy.
Libertarian Party Chair Angela McArdle initially said Kennedy had filed the necessary paperwork, and called him from the convention stage to ask if he would accept the party's nomination, but Kennedy did not initially respond.
Shortly after Kennedy was nominated, McArdle announced that he had not filed for the party's nomination. Shortly after, a party official confirmed on stage at the convention that Kennedy had accepted the nomination. McArdle confirmed to CNN that Kennedy's nomination was valid.
Kennedy told CNN last week that he would not seek the party's nomination at this weekend's convention.
Former President Donald Trump was also nominated at the party's convention on Sunday, but Judge McArdle ruled that Trump was ineligible because he had not filed nomination papers.
Trump spoke at the convention on Saturday but was met with loud and constant boos, particularly when he asked attendees to “nominate me or at least vote for me.”
