The Libertarian Party nominated Chase Oliver as its presidential candidate on Sunday. Oliver celebrated the nomination on social media, calling on all factions to unite and move forward toward freedom. The decision came after the party held its national convention in Washington, D.C., last weekend. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Republican front-runner former President Donald Trump both spoke at the convention and called for the Libertarian Party's endorsement.
Who is this Chase Oliver? Wonno, 38, from Georgia, markets himself as a young voice that can attract voters outside the Libertarian Party. He has described himself to reporters as gay and committed to gun rights. According to the party platform posted on his website, Wonno advocates for Ellis Island immigration policy, inflation control and individual choice on tough issues. Wonno ran for the U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2022 and won enough votes to force a runoff election between former NFL running back Herschel Walker and Georgia pastor Raphael Warnock. Warnock ultimately won.
What are his intentions for running for president? Oliver spoke exclusively to World reporter Carolina Lumetta at the party convention in Washington, D.C. He hopes to garner enough votes in the general election to signal to both major parties that voters are interested in smaller government and more individual freedoms. He said roughly two-thirds of U.S. voters would consider voting for someone other than President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump.
