Anacostia Rail Holdings, the owner and operator of freight railroads in the United States, announced that it has appointed Marlon Taylor as the new president of the New York & Atlantic Railroad (NYA).
Taylor succeeds James Bonner, who has led the rail company since 2016.
“Marlon has been an integral part of the NYA team since joining the railroad in 2016,” said Bruce Lieberman, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Anacostia Railroad Holdings Inc. “There is no better candidate to build on NYA's success. The railroad is in the best financial position and strength it has ever had, and we have an unmatched team of professional railroad employees.”
Taylor expressed excitement about his new role. “I am truly looking forward to this new opportunity,” said Taylor. “During the past eight years at NYA, I have enjoyed developing solutions that help our customers thrive while managing safe, efficient and environmentally conscious operations while serving our diverse communities and employees. Our success has been achieved through close collaboration with our host of the Long Island Rail Road, the busiest commuter railroad in North America.”
Taylor's railroad career began in 1999 when he joined the ARH-owned Pacific Harbor Line. He has been active in the railroad industry as a member of the Association of American Railroads Safety and Operations Committee, Chairman of the New York Railroad Board, the Queens Chamber of Commerce and the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Leadership Council. He currently resides in Lynbrook, New York with his wife.
“We are grateful for James' leadership and commitment and look forward to a continued strong relationship with him,” Lieberman added.
Founded in May 1997, NYA operates freight trains on routes owned by the Long Island Railroad, serving a diverse customer base and replacing more than 120,000 large truck trips annually. The company says the transition will significantly reduce transportation emissions by 75%. NYA maintains connections with several other rail networks, including BRT, CP, CSX, NS, NYNJ, and P&W.
