NEW DELHI: Former US presidential candidate Nikki Haley was seen writing “Shoot them down” on an Israeli artillery shell during a visit to an archaeological site near the northern border with Lebanon, in a photo shared on X by Israeli Knesset member and former UN ambassador Danny Danon.
Danon, who accompanied Haley on the tour, called her a “friend of the former ambassador” in a post showing Haley kneeling and writing on a seashell in purple marker.
Haley was known for her hardline stance during her time as UN envoy under President Donald Trump, a role that overlapped with Danon's.
The Gaza war, which began with a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, has left around 1,200 people dead, mostly civilians, and the militants have taken 252 hostages, 121 of whom remain in Gaza, while the military believes 37 have been killed.
According to a report by the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health, Israeli retaliatory attacks have killed at least 36,096 people in the Gaza Strip, most of them civilians.
Haley, 52, recently said she would vote for Trump in the upcoming election, despite dropping out of the White House race in March after suffering a crushing defeat to Trump in the Republican primary.
Although President Trump has ruled her out as a running mate, she remains a possible candidate for president in 2028.
The White House said Tuesday that President Joe Biden has no intention of changing Israel policy following the deadly weekend attack in Rafah, but stressed that he is not ignoring the suffering of Palestinian civilians.
