TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — Members of law enforcement in the Texarkana area were invited to Silver Star Smokehouse on Wednesday to take part in a free luncheon.
“It's always good to be able to focus on the positives, and we have a really great police force in the greater Texarkana area and a lot of great community advocates who demonstrate that on a regular basis, and we're very grateful for that,” said Texas Police Chief Kelly Dial.
The meal was sponsored by Tony Langford Roofing.
“Tony Langford Roofing has done so much for our community and all of the departments in Bowie County and Miller County agencies, so it's great to have lunch with him and all the officers from the surrounding area,” said Kristen Schultz with the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department.
Tony Langford sees it as a small token of appreciation for doing a difficult and often thankless job.
“I don't think the work they do is appreciated enough. They go out there and put their lives at risk and endure a lot of things that the average person wouldn't have to endure and they have to make the right decisions to get home to their families,” Langford said.
Members of law enforcement were happy to be recognized and rewarded for their work.
“It's always nice to know that we're recognized and I want him to know that we really appreciate him. These are the guys that are out on the streets every day doing this job. They really deserve to be treated like this and I'm just glad that there are people in the community that are willing to do that for them,” said Chief Dial.
Langford hopes other community members will also step up and show their support.
“I think we need to do more as a community to support them and let them know we care,” Langford said.
