MADISON (WKOW) — Part of the celebrity quartet that will compete in the PGA Tour Champions American Family Insurance Championship was announced Friday.
Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympic athlete in history, will return for the second consecutive year, along with former four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons.
The celebrity quartet will be hosted by Andy North, with the fourth player yet to be announced.
The celebrity foursome is a fan favorite at the AmFam Championship, which begins at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison on Friday, June 7. This year's group will play a nine-hole scramble on Saturday, June 8, teeing off on the 10th hole at approximately 2 p.m., after the final tournament group of the day.
North, a two-time U.S. Open champion (1978, 1985) and player on the tour more than 600 times, will host the tournament for the eighth time. North is a Madison native known for his extensive philanthropic work in the community, including hosting Andy North & Friends events that have raised millions of dollars for cancer research.
“We're thrilled to have Michael back and to welcome Matt to this year's Celebrity Foursome with Andy,” tournament director Nate Pockrass said in a statement. “Not only are they incredible athletes, but they're also committed to giving back to their communities through their foundation work and other endeavors. We're confident they'll provide a spirited competition that fans will enjoy and help raise even more funds for charity.”
