What's striking about this two-story Texas penthouse is the view, then the current owner's mountain of World War II airplane memorabilia. Billionaire founder and CEO of Lewis Energy Group, Rod Lewis, is parting ways with his condominium on the top floor of The Arts Residences in downtown San Antonio. Listed for just under $3.3 million by Haley Rodriguez of Cooper Sotheby's International Realty, the luxury home is 3,850 square feet with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and views across the city to the Texas Hill Country. The elevated home offers two bedrooms, three bathrooms, balconies on every level, and a private, gated, three-car garage.
“Penthouses are very few and far between in San Antonio,” Rodriguez told Mansion Global, “and this is the only two-story north-facing apartment in the Arts Residences that offers 270-degree views.”
The 20-story high-rise is due to be completed in 2020, and the penthouse will be located on the top floor of the Thompson San Antonio Hotel. Lewis, who grew up in Texas as the son of an Air Force pilot, says he was attracted to the development's rarity and customization options. “The privacy and exclusivity of this condominium attracted me, and with 59 units, the building has the fewest units of any luxury high-rise in San Antonio,” Lewis told the listing site. “I love architecture and renovation, so having the opportunity to purchase a special condo and modify it to fit my needs before it's built was very appealing.”
The oil tycoon is also clearly a big collector: Not only does he own a World War II aircraft, Lewis' love of aviation memorabilia even extends to the artwork in his apartment: the wallpaper features one of his planes, Glacier Girl (a P-38 Lightning that was buried under the ice in Greenland for 50 years).
The condo's first floor contains the main living space, which features an elegant Murano chandelier and plenty of shimmering brass accent cabinetry, giving it a very dramatic and atmospheric feel. This floor also contains a guest room with en suite. The master suite is located on the second floor, which also contains a lounge and study. Of course, residents of this building receive a variety of perks. Highlighted amenities include an on-site spa, room service, and a 24-hour concierge.
Texas has seen a lot of migration since the pandemic, with outsiders flocking to the Lone Star State, most recently with Drake deciding to settle down and buying a $15 million ranch outside of Houston. Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone but you Star Glen Powell also just returned to his hometown of Austin.
