BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. (KDKA) — Every region of Pennsylvania will play a key role in determining which presidential candidate wins the state, but this area is a key target for both Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
the next day A jury convicted Donald Trump of 34 felony countsIn the county seat of Beaver County, two friends playfully pumped their fists together — good friends who couldn't agree more about Trump.
“He's my pusher. He is. I like him. He gets things done. He gets things done,” said Joan Ashton of New Brighton.
“I think he's guilty of all of it, but I'm the opposite of her. He's not my guy,” Pat Winters added.
Beaver County, like the counties surrounding Pittsburgh and Allegheny, was once a Democratic stronghold, but now, like those counties, its registered voters are shifting to the Republican Party.
“It's not that Beaver County doesn't vote Democrat, they certainly don't like extreme liberals,” Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible said.
Bible, a self-described moderate Democrat who just defeated a Republican incumbent in a district attorney election, said Trump has the right to appeal the verdict, but that his loss gives him no right to disparage the American justice system.
“I think our judicial system is one of the best in the world,” Bible said. “Just because you get a verdict that you don't agree with doesn't necessarily mean there was wrongdoing.”
For many Trump supporters, like Brian Foster, the trial was a joke.
“Donald does some pretty outlandish things at times, but I really think he was treated unfairly. I don't believe everything the prosecutors are saying,” Foster added.
Tricia Radley, a Republican, said the ruling strengthened her resolve to vote against Trump.
“I normally vote Republican, but I haven't voted since he got involved in this,” Radley said.
Delano:Did you vote? [Trump] Initially?
Radley: Yes, I did at first, but I wish I hadn't.
County Commissioner Tony Amadio, a five-term Democrat, believes other issues are more important to voters than the Trump trial in his purple county.
“I'm sure Roe v. Wade is a big issue for some people. The economy, immigration, everybody has their own opinion,” Amadio said.
Democrats like Bob Casey, Josh Shapiro, and Eugene DePasquale have all won in Beaver County, but no one is predicting Joe Biden will win. But Biden doesn't need to do that to win the state; he just needs a close contest.
