LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new space in southern Indiana plans to support female business owners and entrepreneurs.
Wall Street Suites will open Monday at 424 Wall St. near Court Avenue, and the workspace is designed to support, mentor and develop business owners in Southern Indiana and Louisville.
Deidre Collins, president and owner of TCT Collective, recognized the need to support women- and minority-owned businesses.
“I wanted to create this space to empower women business owners in Southern Indiana and Louisville,” Collin said. “I've known women business owners since I was a kid, but they were underrepresented. I wanted to create a space to shine a spotlight on them, to empower them, to mentor them and help them grow their businesses.”
Collins and her husband, James Thornton, both attended Jeffersonville High School and continued to maintain ties to the area while living in Houston.
“This has always been home. Our kids are here, our family is here, so we went back often to spend time with our families and stay connected to the community,” Collins said. “We still felt drawn to the community.”
Collins wanted to give back to his community and decided to pass on his knowledge and experience to other business owners looking to start their own businesses.
“This was important because there was a need. It's been a need for a long time,” Collins said. “The prices here are below market rate, so it gives first-time business owners, especially minority and women business owners who don't have access to capital quickly and easily, a place to start and launch their business. And they can also get mentorship to grow their business.”
Thornton was the visionary behind this space, renovating it over many months.
Wall Street Suites has five separate suites on the left side of the building with shared kitchen areas and bathrooms. On the other side, there are two executive suites with private toilets with showers, washing machines, dryers and kitchen areas. There is also an outdoor green space and private parking.
There's no need to rent space to use Wall Street Suites, and Collins said the space will offer business collaboration and mentorship.
Wall Street Suites also offers discounts to first-time LLC owners, veterans, nonprofits, and women age 55 and older.
